About FireCloud Templates

Applies To: FireCloud Internet Access

FireCloud is a beta product that is only available to participants in the WatchGuard FireCloud Beta program. To try FireCloud Internet Access, join the WatchGuard Beta test community.

FireCloud templates provide a way for Service Providers to manage shared configuration settings for multiple accounts. In a FireCloud template, you can configure FireCloud policies and services just as you would for a managed account. You can then subscribe your managed accounts to the template so that those accounts inherit the template configuration.

To use FireCloud templates, you must add the template, configure the shared settings, and subscribe accounts to the template. For more information, go to Manage FireCloud Templates.

Changes made to FireCloud templates take effect immediately. Unlike Firebox templates, you do not deploy FireCloud templates.

FireCloud supports template subscription for tier-1 accounts that have been delegated to you. FireCloud does not support template subscription for delegated tier-n accounts.

FireCloud Template Configuration Settings

FireCloud templates support many of the configuration settings you can configure for an individual managed account. These settings include:

  • Policies
  • Exceptions
  • Geolocation
  • Content Filtering
  • Content Scanning
  • Network Blocking
  • DNS Server Settings

The available settings for FireCloud policies, services, and exceptions in a template are the same as those you can configure for your own account. For information about how to create FireCloud templates, go to Manage FireCloud Templates.

How FireCloud Template Settings Combine with Account-Specific Settings

For an account that subscribes to a FireCloud template, the settings from the template combine with or override other settings configured in the account.

Combine Override

These template settings combine with settings configured in subscribed accounts:

  • Exceptions
  • Geolocation
  • Content Filtering

These template settings override settings configured in subscribed accounts:

  • Content Scanning
  • Network Blocking
  • Default Policy
  • DNS Servers

Template Settings in a Subscribed FireCloud Account

In the configuration for a FireCloud account that subscribes to a template, a lock icon indicates that a setting comes from a template and is not editable. To see the name of the template where a setting is configured, point to the lock icon.
