Activate an Endpoint Security License

You activate term and subscription licenses for WatchGuard Endpoint Security products and modules in the WatchGuard Support Center. When you activate a license key, the duration of the license begins. You have several options for how to use your license. In the activation process, you can:

  • Add endpoints to a license
  • Extend a license
  • Add a new license (Service Providers only)

Tier-1 Service Providers can also upgrade a WatchGuard Endpoint Security license during activation. You cannot downgrade a license during activation.

After you activate your license key, the licenses appear in your inventory in WatchGuard Cloud. From your inventory, you can allocate endpoints to managed accounts or to your own account. For more information, go to Allocate Endpoints.

WatchGuard EDR Core is included in the Firebox Total Security Suite. It is available for a limited number of endpoints, based on the Firebox model. With a Total Security Suite subscription license, you will see an EDR Core license in WatchGuard Cloud. You can use WatchGuard Cloud to manage EDR Core endpoint allocation and to access the Endpoint Security management UI. For information on EDR Core features, go to WatchGuard EDR Core Features.

NFR Licenses

For Service Providers, when you activate an NFR license the endpoints are automatically allocated to your Subscriber account. This behavior is different from other license activations, where the endpoints are added to your inventory.

Initial License Activation

The license activation process is different the first time you activate a license. Follow the steps in this section to activate a license key for the first time.

If you are a Subscriber with an active endpoint security trial, when you activate your first license it replaces your trial license. The trial ends and your new license becomes active after approximately two minutes. When the new license becomes available, you lose any activity that you complete on the trial during the two minutes (for example, add, extend, or upgrade the trial).

To activate a license:

  1. Go to https://www.watchguard.com/ and log in to your WatchGuard account with your WatchGuard account user name and password..
  2. On the Support Center Home page, select My WatchGuard > Activate Products.
    The Activate Products page opens.
  3. Type or paste your license key.
  4. Click Next.
The Activate a Product wizard begins.
  5. If this is the first license you have activated, you are prompted to name your license. Type a name to help you identify your license on the WatchGuard.com website and in WatchGuard Cloud.
  6. Click Activate.
The Activation is Complete page opens.
  7. Your license is now active and the endpoints on this license are automatically allocated to your account. If you are a Service Provider, the endpoints are added to your inventory.

Log in to your WatchGuard Cloud account to manage your endpoint allocation.

If you are a Subscriber with an active trial, when you activate your first license it replaces your trial license. The trial ends and your new license becomes active effective immediately. Your new license inherits the name of your trial license. The remainder of your trial is not added to the expiration date of your new license.

Activate Additional Licenses

If you are a Service Provider, you can choose to modify an active license or add a new, separate license.

If you already have an active license, when you activate new license keys in Support Center, they immediately modify the current active license (for example, add or remove endpoints from an existing license or extend the license renewal date).

Caution: When you choose to extend your license, the number of available endpoints is immediately updated to match the number of endpoints on the license you purchased. If the purchased license has fewer endpoints than your current license, your endpoint count will be reduced immediately when the new license is activated. If your Service Provider account becomes overallocated because of this change, Endpoint Security protection is immediately disabled on the affected devices.

Caution: If you have a Total Security Suite license with EDR Core and then activate Passport or another Endpoint Security product such as WatchGuard EPDR, the EDR Core license becomes inactive in WatchGuard Cloud. Make sure that the new license has the same number or more endpoints available to avoid overallocation in the account. The affected endpoints show in the Endpoint Security management UI without a license. You must assign the new license to the affected endpoints from the Licenses list.

If you have an active license, or if you are a Service Provider with an active trial for an endpoint security product or module, follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://www.watchguard.com/ and log in to the WatchGuard Support Center with your WatchGuard account user name and password.
  2. On the Support Center Home page, select My WatchGuard > Activate Products.
    The Activate Products page opens.
  3. Type or paste your license key.
  4. Click Next.
The Activate a Product wizard opens.
  5. (Service Providers only) On the Add Product Details page of the activation wizard, from the Update a License or Add a New License drop-down list:
    • To extend or add endpoints to an existing license, select the name of the license.
    • To add a new license, enter a new friendly name for the license.

Only Service Providers can have multiple active licenses. Subscribers do not see this page in the Activate a Product wizard.

  6. In the Add Users or Extend Your License section:
    • Select Add Endpoints to add endpoints to your license. The Change Summary shows the new count updated to match the number of endpoints on the license you purchased.
    • Select Extend License to extend the renewal date for your license. The Change Summary shows the new count and expiration date.
  7. Click Activate.
The Activation is in Progress page opens.
  8. Your license is now active and the endpoints are automatically allocated to your account. If you are a Service Provider, the endpoints appear in your inventory.

Log in to your WatchGuard Cloud account to manage your endpoint allocation.

If you cancel a license or a license expires, there is a seven-day grace period before the protection is disabled on the endpoints. For more information on expiration, go to Activate an Endpoint Security License.
