Cyberattacks are becoming both more frequent and more sophisticated; they target both private users and public and private organizations and institutions. They can therefore not be ignored in the risk operations of any country. For proof of this, we need look no further than the latest edition of the World Economic Forum's Global Risk Report: cyberattacks are ranked seventh in terms of probability and eighth in terms of impact.
While global risks are not comparable, since definitions and emerging issues change over the years, cyberattacks, along with environmental risks, have consolidated their position on both the impact and probability rankings since they first appeared on the list in 2012. On the other hand, the the incorporation of digital technologies into an increasing number of aspects of daily life has led to the appearance of instability and risks. These risks have implications at a global level in terms of economy and national security. They include the theft of money, the interruption of operations, the risks associated with fake news, and identity theft, as well as the loss of privacy both for individuals and companies.
This can be seen in the data gathered by our laboratory, PandaLabs, in 2019. It registered 14.9 million malware events; and it stopped 7.9 million potentially unwanted program (PUP) alerts and 76,000 alerts for exploits trying to leverage applications vulnerabilities, networks, or hardware to take over IT systems. Membership and global alliances
Panda Security actively participates in many IT security organizations to establish productive relationships that allow us to improve our products and services. Among these organizations are AMSTO (Anti-malware Testing Standards Organization), the Centro Criptológico Nacional (National Cryptology Center), and Virus Total.
We are also members of the Cyber Security Tech Accord, a public commitment among over 60 large global companies, to protect and empower citizens online, and to improve security, stability and resilience in cyberspace.
Along the same lines, Panda has recently joined the Cyber Threat Alliance (CTA) to work together in good faith to share threat information and improve the cybersecurity of the global digital ecosystem by allowing high quality information about cyberthreats to be shared in real time between companies and organizations in the cybersecurity field.
In the framework of the 29th edition of the RSA Conference, Panda Security, as a Spanish multinational originating the the Basque Country, announced its participation in a new business association: Cybasque. It is made up of Basque cybersecurity companies, and aims to promote the application of cybersecurity in the industrial environment, and raise societal awareness of the physical and logical security risks of the digital economy that we are part of.
In parallel, and with similar objectives, Panda is proud to collaborate with organizations such as asLAN, AEI Ciberseguridad and ISMS.
These global alliances and recognitions are also inherited by Cytomic, Panda Security's new business unit, which was created to provide the specialization and attention needed to resolve security issues in organizations with higher demands and a greater level of cybersecurity maturity; and now under the umbrella of WatchGuard's Strategic Account team.
