Password Management
Applies To: AuthPoint Total Identity Security
The AuthPoint password manager is a legacy feature that is only available to accounts that purchased Total Identity Security before 1 October 2024. Accounts that purchased AuthPoint Total Identity Security after that date do not include the password manager. For more information, go to End of Availability for the AuthPoint Password Manager.
With AuthPoint password management, you can save your login credentials in a personal password vault that is available from the AuthPoint mobile app and the AuthPoint browser extension. With this feature, the only password you have to remember is the password to your vault, and you can use the AuthPoint app and browser extension to autofill your credentials when you log in.
To learn how to set up and use the AuthPoint password manager, refer to the Get Started with AuthPoint Password Management Quick Start Guide.
From the password manager, you can:
- Open Your Password Vault
- Add Passwords to Your Vault
- Import and Export Existing Passwords to Your Vault
- Generate a New Password
- Share a Password
- Synchronize Your Password Vault
- Evaluate the Security of Your Passwords
- Manage Sites that Autofill Credentials
- Manage Password Vault Sessions
- Reset Your Vault Password
When You First Log In
The first time you log in to the password manager, you must create a vault password to protect your password vault. The vault password is a unique password that you require to log in to the password manager from the mobile app and browser extension. The vault password is separate from your AuthPoint password.
After you create a vault password, you receive a recovery key that you can use to recover your data if you forget your vault password. You cannot reset your password without the recovery key.
Caution: We strongly recommend that you save your recovery key in a secure location.
Open Your Password Vault
If you have multiple AuthPoint user accounts, each user account has a separate password vault. In the AuthPoint mobile app, you can only use the password vaults for AuthPoint user accounts that have an active token on the mobile device.
Caution: If your AuthPoint user account is blocked or deleted, you cannot access your password vault.
To access your vault in the browser extension, you must first authenticate to the IdP portal or a SAML resource. To access your vault in the mobile app, you must enable PIN protection or biometrics.
To log in to your password vault in the AuthPoint mobile app:
- Open the AuthPoint mobile app.
- Tap .
- Select your AuthPoint user account. If you have multiple AuthPoint user accounts, you have separate password vaults for each account.
- Enter your vault password and tap Unlock. If PIN protection or biometrics are enabled in the mobile app, enter your PIN or authenticate with a biometric ID, like a fingerprint.
AuthPoint logs you in to your password vault and you see the Passwords page.
To log in to your password vault in the AuthPoint browser extension:
- Authenticate and log in to the IdP portal or a SAML resource.
- Open the AuthPoint browser extension and click Log in.
- Enter your vault password and click Unlock.
AuthPoint logs you in to your password vault and you see the Passwords page.
On the Passwords page, you can see and manage the passwords in your password vault. Your password vault displays your Private passwords and your Corporate passwords separately. When you add a password, you choose which list the password is shown in.
Click on a password to open that website and log in with the credentials saved in your vault.
How Autofill Works
After you set up AuthPoint Password Manager, when you go to a website or log in to an app that has credentials saved in your vault, AuthPoint autofills your user name and password.
In a Browser
In web browsers, all login fields contain a icon.
If your credentials do not autofill, or if you have multiple accounts for the site, click to manually populate each field or to copy a saved user name or password.
Some websites do not support autofill or do not identify login fields. On these sites, you might not see the icon in login fields.
If the AuthPoint autofill UI gets in your way, click Snooze AuthPoint. This hides the AuthPoint autofill UI and prevents AuthPoint from autofilling your credentials for 10 minutes.
To disable AuthPoint Password Manager for a specific website, add an excluded site in the settings of the AuthPoint browser extension. For more information, go to AuthPoint Password Manager Settings.
In the Mobile App
When you tap a login field in a mobile app, an option to autofill appears above the keyboard. The appearance is different on iOS and Android.
Tap to select the credentials to autofill.
